The European Commission has proposed legislatively obliging automakers to produce cars with the expectation of easier processing than now. According to European officials, this will help prevent the release of 12.3 million tons of greenhouse gases that are generated during normal disposal.
The bill would require automakers to design vehicles to be easily disassembled and to provide clear and detailed instructions on how to replace and remove parts for repairs during use and at the end of the vehicle's life.
In addition, 25% of the plastic used to make a new car must be recycled, with a quarter of this recycled plastic coming from plastic parts from older cars.
The EU has committed itself to creating a circular economy as part of a set of policy initiatives, the European Green Deal. The basic principles of such an economy are the conservation of natural resources by saving raw materials and energy and increasing the service life of things with the help of modern technologies.
